DJX ’23: “50 Years of Hip Hop”– Keynote Q&A

Atlantic City, N.J. – It’s been 50 years since hip hop’s first recognized event and, since that date, hip hop has certainly taken over more than just our DJ culture and the greater music world. At DJX ’23, we’ll recognize hip hop’s gold anniversary with a panel (details below) and a party (details TBA soon), both on Wednesday, Aug. 9. So, for starters, join us for our “Keynote Q&A: 50 Years of Hip Hop,” as we present a panel of hip hop’s founders, innovators, and evolutionary forces.

Set for August 7-10 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., DJX will bring the entire DJ industry together with its winning combo of new technologies, education, and sponsored After Dark events.

Produced by DJ LIFE Mag and Hazan Media Group, DJX will present a show floor full of the latest DJ-related products (audio, lighting, studio, accessories, etc.), a slate of 30 seminars, panels, and keynotes tackling the latest vital topics, and nightly parties featuring top DJ talent. Operating since 1990, DJX is the longest-running and most-impactful gathering of DJs in the Americas. Whether you’re a mobile jock, club DJ, bedroom spinner or home-studio music maker, DJX ’23 will have something for you.

Keynote Q&A: 50 Years of Hip Hop

According to legend, it all started Aug. 11, 1973, at a “back to school jam” thrown in a Bronx apartment building’s rec room. With DJ Kool Herc on the decks, historians seem to agree that all the elements of hip-hop came together that night. Fifty years later, hip hop has not only taken over the music world, but also pop culture at large – fashion, sports, language, you name it. Hip hop remains bigger than ever.

So, at DJX ’23, come celebrate with us as we honor “50 Years of Hip Hop” and welcome some of the most prominent fixtures in the hip-hop culture – from its foundational days to its modern incarnation – as they discuss its birth and continuing evolution, its innovative DJs and MCs, its influences and much more. Moderated by DJ LIFE Editor Jim Tremayne, the session’s participants include: Grand Wizzard Theodore; Jazzy Jay; Kool DJ Red Alert; DJ Skribble; Keith Shocklee (Public Enemy); Grandmaster Dee (Whodini); and Mell Starr.
