What Does Health Look Like For DJs?

Often times we overlook physical and mental health challenges that come along with our industry, but 2 DJ’s 1 Mic open the conversation.

Dear Fellow DJs and DJX Community Members,

As DJs, we live for the moments when the music takes control, when we see the crowd light up, and when we feel the energy that comes from a room filled with passion. But how often do we pause to reflect on the energy we’re pouring out of ourselves? Attending DJX 2024 with DJ Mike was one of those rare moments that made me, DJ Jay P, step back and take stock of what truly matters—not just in our careers, but in our lives. It wasn’t just another event for us; it was a heart-to-heart moment with our DJ family. Seeing so many of our peers from all corners of the industry gather with a shared love for the craft was inspiring, but what moved me even more was realizing how many of us are quietly battling our own health challenges while still giving everything we’ve got to our music and our audiences.

It reminded me of the sacrifices we make—the sleepless nights, the constant hustle, the wear and tear on our bodies and minds. And for what? To create unforgettable nights for others, often while forgetting to take care of ourselves. During DJX, DJ Mike and I had a profound conversation about this very topic after speaking with DJ Chris Atwood, who bravely shared his story of surviving a stroke. His journey left us both speechless and woke us up to a simple truth: if we don’t take care of ourselves, we might lose the very ability to do what we love most. His story made it clear—our health is our most valuable asset, and we can’t afford to ignore it any longer. Watch the full interview, below:

That’s why we’re excited to bring this conversation to the forefront. On October 22, 2024, 2 DJs 1 Mic will be hosting a special podcast episode titled "What Does Health Look Like For DJs?" We’ll explore the challenges, the struggles, and the solutions that can help us all prioritize our well-being while continuing to excel in our craft. This is an invitation, not just to listen but to be part of this crucial conversation. Let’s keep that sense of unity we felt at DJX alive and come together to support one another—not just in our successes but in our wellness too. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger community. Let’s show the world what it truly means to take care of each other.
