An Ongoing Discussion: Health & Wellness in the Industry

2 DJ’s 1 Mic continue the conversation that far too many of us shy away from: health and wellness.

On October 22, 2024, our podcast, 2 DJs 1 Mic, took on a topic that far too many of us shy away from: health and wellness. My co-host, DJ Jay P, and I were joined by an inspiring panel consisting of Dr. Crystal from Holistic Wellness Beauty, Danny Max of Max Design, and Jay Murch from Vibo. Together, we explored a conversation that we all desperately need to hear. The topic for our panel was "Wellness Behind the Decks and Lenses." We peeled back the layers on a subject that impacts each of us deeply, but that many treat like a hidden secret—as if ignoring it will make the reality go away.

Health and wellness touch every part of our lives, and yet we hesitate to discuss them openly. We act as if vulnerability about our well-being makes us weak, but the truth is that this silence keeps us locked in unhealthy patterns. How many of us know someone who passed away too soon? How many of us are silently dealing with health issues that could have been avoided—issues that maybe could have been prevented if only we talked more about how we feel and why?

This conversation with our panel allowed us to break that silence. They shared their health journeys with us—the triumphs, the struggles, the moments that changed everything. Danny spoke with raw honesty about his lifelong struggle with being overweight. He talked about the challenges, the self-doubt, and ultimately, his decision to set a goal for himself: to reach his ideal weight by the time he turns 40. And let me tell you, he’s doing it. He’s facing it head-on and absolutely crushing it.

Jay Murch also opened up, sharing how the pandemic became a turning point in his life. He made the decision to go vegan, not just as a diet choice but as a complete lifestyle transformation. He talked about how embracing plant-based eating has added incredible value to his life—not just physically but mentally too. He emphasized the importance of moving your body, working out, and how these habits have transformed the way he sees the world.

And then there was Dr. Crystal Garrett. Her story touched all of us deeply. Born with heart issues, she shared how doctors had told her that her life would always be limited. They even warned her against having children. Imagine being told that the things most of us take for granted would forever be beyond your reach. But instead of letting her prognosis define her, Dr. Crystal chose to fight. She chose to believe that she was more than a diagnosis, and she took charge of her health. Today, she lives a life free of those limitations—a life where she can do whatever her heart desires. Her story is one of incredible courage, of deciding that she wouldn’t accept a life half-lived.

This conversation was eye-opening for both DJ Jay P and me. It was real, raw, and needed. It made us all realize that these aren’t just stories—they are powerful examples of what’s possible when we choose to care for ourselves. Like it’s often said, "Your health is your wealth." Without it, everything else becomes harder—dreams are postponed, joy is dulled, potential goes unfulfilled.

So, I’ll leave you with this question: Are you brave enough to make a change that will positively affect the rest of your life? Are you willing to put yourself first, to have the hard conversations, and to take those first steps toward real, lasting health? Because that’s what it takes—courage, openness, and the willingness to choose yourself every day. Your health is your foundation. Are you ready to build it stronger?
